Advantages to the Fauquier site, said Dr. Clarke, were the newness of the building, the space for growth, lack of the Lynn family’s mountainous debt, air conditioning, the cafeteria, and — perhaps most important — availability.
On the subject of financing, Dr. ■ Clarke said individual board members have obtained a line of credit and all tuition will be placed in escrow until Wakefield opens at its new location. He and board member Bob Roberts sent a letter to the school’s parents on Tuesday outlining plans for the Marshall site.
Dr. Clarke also said that on Friday 25 teachers signed “explictedly written” letters stating their intention to stay with Wakefield School after the move to Marshall. He added that five were out of town or undecided, and three have resigned and been replaced.
“Our potential for growth is unbelievable," said Dr. Clarke.
David Konick and Walter Longyear, two parents aligned with Mrs. Lynn in her battles with the Wakefield School Board of Directors, provided some details this week about the nascent Wakefield Country Day, including that Mrs. Lynn will likely be headmaster of the new institution.
The new school’s articles of incorporation name the six members of the “Initial Board of Directors" that will run Wakefield Country Day until the permanent board can be voted in: Mrs. Lynn and Mr. Konick of Washington, Va.; William A. Beeton Jr. of Markham; Phillipe Cognon of Flint Hill; John D. Piper of Falls Church and Elaine T. Mayberry of Luray.
The articles of incorporation also include “Purposes and Powers,” roughly equivalent to the “Statement of Purpose” that was deleted by the Wakefield School board from its bylaws, one of the actions leading to the fight between Mrs. Lynn and the board.
The permanent Board of Directors for Wakefield Country Day will consist of faculty, parents, the Lynn family, alumnae and at-large members.
