TIME WELL SPENT
“If I could save time in a bottle. . .
The wish expressed in the lyrics of this song is often shared by most of us. No. we cannot harness time. The minutes and the days pass surely and swiftly by, like sand in an hourglass.
Yet. unlike the sand in the hourglass, we cannot invert the flow of time and begin anew. We cannot turn back time and “do it over,” but we can use our time wisely by learning from all of our experiences and “do it better” the next time.
The only true failure is the one from which we do not learn and grow. There is a Latin phrase which, when translated, means “Through adversity to the stars.” Thus, not a moment of our lives, even the less pleasurable moments, need ever be time wasted.
There is one sure way in which we may spend our time wisely. Each Sabbath, attend your chosen house of worship. Time with God is always time well spent.
