Estate planning seminar
There will be an estate planning meeting sponsored by the Rappahannock Extension Office at 7 p.m, Jan. 9 in the. Extension Office on Gay Street in Washington, Va. »
Local attorney Doug Baumgardner will speak on the special value of farms for estate purposes, time extensions for payment of estate taxes by farmers and the new augmented estate law.
Farm management agent Jack Dunford will address the unified estate and gift tax and tax credit; the marital deduction for estate planning purposes; and gifting to minimize estate taxes and using proper property ownership, trusts and life estates to minimize taxes.

King holiday commemorated
A program commemorating the birthday of civil rights pioneer Martin Luther King Jr. will take place at The Theatre at Washington, Va. at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18.
E. Frank Warner will recite the memorable "I Have a Dream" speech and several local youths will share their visions for the future. Local gospel groups will also perform.
The program is sponsored by the Julia C. Boddie Scholarship Committee, Lillian Aylor, president. Free and open to the y public.
