Jerry Wood, Rappahannock’s newly elected representative to the House of Delegates, came to the Board of Supervisors meeting Monday and left with a short wish list.
Chairman Hubert Gilkey said the county was most concerned that the county’s new index for school ftmding would cost the county about $200,000 in reduced aid from the state for education. He also questioned the state’s $17,500 fee for an application for approval of a new cell for the landfill. Finally he said the compensation board had said the state would no longer pick up any office expenses for constitutional officers and that would cost the' county an additional $224,000.
“I understand everybody’s trying to cut, but we have to raise taxes to fund these things,” Mr. Gilkey said.

"We have to be careful that the funds don’t end up in the general budget for operating binds but are protected to support the infrastructure,” he said.
County Administrator John McCarthy said he was particularly concerned that the higher fees charged by the Department of Waste Management for the landfill application did not include any guarantee that the department would act within any specified number of days to review the application.
