Lee Bird congratulated the committee on the work done and added, “It’s important to do advance planning. We shouldn’t wait until the last minute when the expense is greater.”
He noted that attending Piedmont takes an hour and half out of the school day for throe who attend
and added a local vocational center would be a “lasting asset.” He urged the county officials to at least buy land for the middle school now.
“We should get in on the ground floor so we’re not caught short later on,” he said. “Over and above that, education is something we shouldn’t spare the horses on. We must make sure the younger generation is prepared to take its role with adequate training for college or work,” he added.
William Young also supported the committee report saying, “In an increasingly complex technical world we will have to pay increased costs to educate children. I hope the county will support the programs that seem in the best interests of the school system and move on."
