He presented a chart that showed that if school population had been grqpring at one and a hall percent a year, the county would now have over 1,400 students in school. He said the recent enrollment increase is a “fluke with the overall trend way down. If we built a school every time there is a fluke, we would have built four schools,” he said. “Something is wrong with the projection.”

Lucia Kilby said her family has always supported education. “Farm income is not what it used to be, and taxes are going up,” she said.

“I would love to see* new school tomorrow, but the time is not right. We might not be able to pay for it. The majority of our people are not high income,” she added.
