County. In at least one instance, the coverage on Wakefield-Fauquier was inserted into the middle of a story about Wakefield Country Day School.
The name of the newspaper is RAPPAHANNOCK News. It is subtitled “Rappahannock County’s Family Newspaper since 1877.” I would suggest that the editor ponder this. In the 15 years that I have subscribed, it has never been the policy to give coverage to schools’ events except those located in Rappahannock County.
If the Fauquier Times-Democrat chooses to cover events at Wakefield of Marshall, I think that is appropriate. For lack, however, of a policy of giving similar coverage to the many other schools outside the county that are attended by Rappahannock resident students or that employ Rappahannock residents as faculty or staff, this coverage of a Fauquier school is obviously intended to irritate wounds rather than heal them. Like any other person or institution that chooses to leave our midst, we should simply wish them well, and then get on with our lives.
If the News chooses to run a small piece (as it frequently has dope) on honors received by a local student who is studying elsewhere, great! I don’t, however, see lengthy stories about events at Highland School or Fauquier High School. Jan. 2, however, we have 22 column inches devoted to Wakefield, Fauquier with a mention of only one Rappahannock-resident student. Who are we kidding?
I think that the editor needs to learn that Wakefield Country Day School is a Rappahannock institution. It is indeed one of the jewels in the crown that is Rappahannock County. The goals and accomplishments of the Lynns who founded it wnd the school they founded rep
