Students at Rappahannock Elementary and Rappahannock High are busily getting their science projects ready for the Rappahannock Science Fair, which will be held Feb. 20-21.
Students are investigating every imaginable topic. For example, Sherron Boddie is investigating the levels of radioactive radon in various types of houses. Jason Fox is pursuing his interest in wildlife by observing the effect a predatory threat has upon bird behavior. Amy Kellert is investigating how well ZIP codes speed mail on its way. Christian Phillips is determining whether certain metals protect iron from corrosion. Other projects investigate topics such as the effects of odors on psychic ability, paper airplane do* sign, ground cover and erosion, and using electricity to juice fruit.
On Thursday, Feb. 19 students will put the results of their investigations on display in the RCES multi-purpose room. Lower grade levels are entering group projects. Students in grades 6-8 compete as individuals , within the Junior Division. Students from grades 9-12 enter the Senior Division competition. ' ,
