Beahm was charged with reckless driving by Trooper W. E. Walther.

• Stanley Lee Alther, 44, of Washington, Va. was charged with failure to yield the right-of-way by . Trooper C.A. Moore after an auto accident at Massies Corner at 10:15 a.m. Dec. 22, according to Sgt. Adams. sAlter

wa4 operating a 1977 Oldsmobile when he attempted to turn left, coming into the path of a 1985 BMW, operated by 24-year-old Matthew Wagner of Reston, said Sgt. Adams.

Wagner had been headed westbound on U.S. 211 when the accident occurred.

No one was hurt, but the BMW sustained $5,000 in damages and the Oldmobile $4,000, according to Sgt. Adams.

• Martin Ray Chaffee, 20, of Washington, Va was charged with misdemeanor assault after a fight on Gay Street was witnessed by a state trooper, according to Sgt. D.S. Adams of the State Police.

Trooper C.A. Moore witnessed Chaffee allegedly assaulting a Sperryville man at 4:15 p.m. Dec. 13, 100 feet south of Piedmont Avenue.

Trooper Moore arrested Chaffee.

• A Woodville man was charged with failure to yield the right-of-way after a two-car accident at 10 a.m. Jan. 3 at the intersection of U.S. 522 and Route 621, according to Sgt. Adams.

Lester Ashby Wayland, 79, of Woodville was operating -a 1991 Plymouth when he allegedly pulled out from a stop sign onto U.S. 522, hitting a northbound 1982 Chevy pickup, operated by 40-year-old John William Baldwin Jr. of Culpeper.

Trooper C.A. Moore charged Wayland.

• Mail belonging to box holders near the Route 614-Route 622 intersection in Gid Brown Hollow was stolen and opened on about Dec. 26, according to Rappahannock Sheriff John H: Woodward. The mail had been thrown into Covington River. The remains were handed over to the Postal Service, and it was not known if any had been stolen.
