Tenth District Representative Frank Wolf spoke to county high school students last Thursday.
He started by telling some of his life history including the fact that he decided when he was in third grade he wanted to be a congressman. He said that to do so he had to overcome a stutter.
He said his determination and commitment enabled him to overcome the stutter, but he was defeated twice when he ran for Congress before winning on his third try. The determination that helped him overcome his speech problem also made it possible for him to keep trying until he won election, he said. “Had I not stuttered, I wouldn’t be in Congress,” he added.
He said two men especially impressed him when he got to Congress, Sen. Robert Dole, whose arm was damaged in war and former Rep. Charles Bennett who never missed a vote in 44 years although he had polio as a boy and had to walk with braces and a cane.
