rameter. The word came to mean limits, borders, boundaries, instructions, specifications, variables, constants, coordinates, agendas and salary ranges - almost anything except what “parameters” really does mean, so I will not undertake to inform you. Look it up for yourselves.
After “parameters” came “paradigm,” but paradigm didn’t last long. People were uncertain whether it was par-a-dime, to rhyme with time, or par-a-dim, to rhyme with slim.
I see another bowl of chowder coming on: resonate. Said the Times: The extinction of Bosnia as a sovereign state would resonate from the Balkans to the Baltic.”
My favorite senator, Nancy Kassebaum of Kansas, fears that the Republican message of “peace through strength” no longer resonates with voters. Accuracy in Media recalls how an erroneous article in the Times “resonated throughout the media.”
It’s too late to do anything about “dysfunctional.” It will have to run its course before it goes the way of “quintessential.” It’s not too late to arouse the troops against “resonate.” Let us stomp on this one before it grows.
