Every local beanery, if it is a good local beanery, offers a soup du jour: vegetable beef on Monday, cream of mushroom on Tuesday, and so on through the week to clam chowder on Sunday. Our language works the- same way. We have words that come and go. Last year’s soup du jour was - dysfunctional.
