It’s time for students with musical talent to prepare for the Bland Music Competition sponsored each year by the Lions Clubs of Virginia.

Student vocalists or instrumentalists are eligible to participate when sponsored by a Virginia Lions Club. Registrants will be competing with hundreds of other young musicians all over the state for prizes and valuable scholarships made available through voluntaiy contributions from Lions Clubs throughout Virginia.

This years Bland Music Contest will be held in the RCHS auditorium at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 28. Interested students can receive registration forms from their school music teachers or from a member of the Lions Club.

The first Bland Music Contest was held in 1948 with state finals in Roanoke. Two awards of $150 each were given to the winners.

Through the interest and efforts of Virginia Lions, the Bland Scholarships have grown from 2 to 12 scholarships amounting to $7,400 annually.
