Mr. McCarthy had copies of a request for proposals drawn up in response to the BFI company’s suggestion that they could handle county trash for less than the cost of constructing a landfill cell. Mr. McCarthy said the company was also considering serving Fauquier County and suggested Rappahannock hold off on requesting proposals. He said that the county would need to open a new cell at the landfill regardless, because BFI would need more than a year to build a transfer station.
The supervisors agreed to have the Planning Commission advertise changes to the zoning ordinance to add requirements for music festivals when there is a charge. The proposed amendments will include a requirement that such events end by 11 p.m. Mr. McCarthy said the supervisors could make that more lenient by allowing such field parties to run later without readvertising.
The supervisors decided to put off advertising an amendment to ban target shooting in certain built-up areas until they can hold local meetings in those areas. Sheriff John Henry Woodward said his office had received many complaints about target shooting. He said most of the complaints were from Chester Gap, Rappahannock Lakes and the Sperry ville area.
Mr. McCarthy said the supervisors could designate the areas where target shooting would not be allowed by listing certain land maps that are detailed blow-ups of developed areas.
