Challenge

It may be to some an odd way for teens to spend a glorious fall Saturday, but teams from eight schools from Ground the state gathered in Huntly on Oct. 23 to take Latin tests. ; The teams competed in the Fifth Annual Wakefield . Country Day Schools, Inc. (WCDS) Certamen - the Latin word for “competition.”

Welby Lynn, a junior at WCDS said, “Certamens are a fun way to meet fellow classics students and form lasting friendships.”

A total of 27 teams of students in Latin, from grades six through 12, took part in contests to match their knowledge of Latin grammar and classical Roman history, mythology ahd customs against other competitors. The teams competed on Level One, Level One Experienced, Level Two and Upper Level.

As members of the host schools, WCDS students could not compete for awards, but the school’s teams all placed within the top three slots in each level, Lynn said.
