When the Board of Supervisors asked for public comment at their meeting Monday, two citizens said they were not happy with the names chosen for their roads.
Robert Dennis said that the name Poe’s Road should also be used for the stretch of 637 that is designated Jerico Road. He said that the road became known as Jerico Road because of a sign placed on the road by a landowner in the 1960s to point to his farm which was named Jerico. He said the road had few houses on it and was popular with road hunters who called it Jerico Road because of the sign.
He said he would not speculate on why the Flint Hill Fire Department had suggested the name Jerico Road, but “I recommend you reconsider your decision to name the road as a monument to illegal hunting.”
Chairman Hubert Gilkey said he had talked with several people about the road name and that Roger Poe said before it was known as Poes’ Road it was called Rawlings Road.
