Follow Nutrition Guidelines
Home-packed lunches should follow’ the same nutrition guidelines as those served in the cafeteria and at home. Let your child participate in shopping for and preparing lunches and include selections from the basic food groups.
• Pack a protein food such as meat, fish, poultry, eggs, cheese, or peanut butter. Go easy on processed meats and pasteurized cheese, which often are very high in salt. Although peanut butter is not complete protein, when is it combined with bread, it satisfies protein requirements. And this lunch-box favorite can be dressed up w'itk^Cheddar cheese, bananas, apples, or^dried fruit such as raisins for a well-liked treat that's extra nutritious.
