These crisp fall days that bring views of the park that seem to show each individual tree, remind us that such sights, once common, are now rare. Visibility from the drive is being lost to polution from plants in the Ohio Valley and ozone caused by the Vehicles on the drive itself. *« Now Rep. Wolf is engaged in another battle with the Jj.S. Park Service. In his 1992 bid for reelection, Rep. Wolf took credit for stopping the mall planned for part of the Manassas Battlefield and expanding that park. He is promoting a new national park in the Shenandoah Valley linking Various battlefield sites in that area. The Park Service is suggesting a National Heritage Area rather than a new national park and further study of the area before proceeding, f. J Most of the Civil War was fought in Virginia. At some time Virginians must decide how much of the Commonwealth’s land should be set aside to commemorate the battles of that war. Surely everyone can agree that the entire state cannot protected as a battlefield. ■ Sometime also, Rep. Wolf, who opposes federal deficits in principal while trying to get as many federal dollars as possible into the 10th District, must realize that the U.S. Park Service, increasingly strapped for funds to preserve and ^manage the lands already in its jurisdiction, cannot indefinitely take on additional lands to administer.
