raised in order to support the new water system. To pay for the new loan, rates must be raised enough to cover additional loan payments of $6,000 per year.
A public hearing will be held at the next meeting to discuss the new water rates, and proposed rate increases will be advertised in the Rappahannock News prior to that meeting.
The current water rate is a monthly base rate of $10 plus 30 cents for each 100 gallons between 3.000 and 10,000 gallons, and 40 cents for each 100 gallons over 10.000 gallons. These; rates currently produce between $35,000 and $37,000 yearly.
Adjustments were also proposed for the town’s budget. A bill from John Baumgardner for $8,500 for surveying the town’s streets is expected to be paid within the next two months. Mr. Gooch questioned whether the amount had been included in the last budget, and Mayor Willis said he will ask Brad Fisher. He suggested reducing the consulting and engineering category by that amount, to increase the professional services category by $8,500.
Mayor Willis said that the fire department had spent $9,338 on maintenance, but was budgeted at$7,000. He suggested reducing their administrative budget by $2,350 to cover the difference.
