Commonwealth’s Attorney Peter Luke said, “This is one of the strangest cases that has come through this court since I’ve been Commonwealth’s Attorney. All of these offenses involved a considerable amount of premeditation...I do not believe she should be a candidate for probation.”
Lopez’s attorney, Mr. Williams, said that though Lopez had been found to be competent and sane enough to stand trial, he felt that “If this women is not insane she is as close to it as anyone can get. Who would claim to be a hermaphrodite?”
Shannon Renee Cordani, 18, of Amissville, pleaded guilty to two charges of petit larceny. I
Miss Cordani had been indicted on Nov. 16 for grand larceny, but that indictment has been amended to petit larceny, and subsequent information has led to a second charge of petit larceny. She was charged with stealing money from Hackley’s Store in Amissville, where she was an employee, on two separate occasions.
Judge Robertson sentenced Miss Cordani to 12 months in jail and suspended that sentence. She must, however, perform 100 hours of community service (at any place other than the Amissville Volunteer Fire Department), pay a fine of $500 by March 15, and be on two years unsupervised probation. If she has no parole violations during the two year period, the second petit larceny charge will be dismissed.
