plussers. A nonplusser is a statement that leaves its readers perplexed. The AP in September reported a poll on school dropouts. Said the stoiy: “Twenty-one percent of girls said they left because they had become a mother, as did eight percent of boys.”
A blinker is just that—a statement that makes the reader blink. This blinker came from a crime story in San Antonio: “Losser returned fire, striking the clerk and another worker in the business.” I’ve often read of someone getting hurt in the fracas, but it seems a bit unusual to be struck in the business.
