the art teacher’s position full time. Davette Kvarnes said many artist were considering home schooling or private schooling because of dissatisfaction with the art program in the schools. She said she is an artist and her children draw everyday, but say they “hate” their art classes which are not taught by the art teacher. "
“Art nourishes the soul of all children,” she said. "People know the art program is important. There are a lot of taxpayers who don't have children in the public schools who really to support an arts program.” She gave the board a pile of letters in support of a full-time art position from people in the community and from students in both schools.
High school student Anna Metcalfe show ed some of the projects she has done in art and said that some have “definite practical applications.”
Hllen Neil Dore urged the board not to cut out funds to hire a part-time coordinator of volunteers. “This can have far reaching effects," she said.
