and 8 Wakefield Country Day School will present its spring musical comedy “Murders of 1940.” Performances are at 8 p.m. both Friday and Saturday nights. Tickets are $2.50 for adults and $1 for children.
The following weekend April 14 and 15 Laurie Marshall will premier her “Stories from the Dust in the Corner” at the RCHS auditorium at 7:30p.m. both evenings. Ms. Marshall said her play is “based on the concept that the human spirit is renewable as the consistently reappearing dust in the comer.”
It is structured around three experiences with death— being taken by surprise by it, making peace with it and fighting it, as reflected by the lives of Mythli Nakkiran of India, who was accidentally killed in a fire; of the author’s mother, Alice Marshall, who embraced the end of her life boldly; and of Amira Skaljic, a Moslem woman from Bosnia who valiantly fought caner.
“Interwoven with their stories are songs, poems and images that humorously explore our relationship with dust and celebrate our common journey from birth to death,” Ms. Marshall said.
Slides of Ms. Marshall’s portraits, landscapes, dreamscapes apd religious imagery are an integral part of the performance. Brooms also play a key role, as they are used to sweep, to mourn, to fight, to fly and to dance. Students at Rappahannock County High School are planning a production of “The Glass Menagerie” by Tennessee Williams. The date has not been chosen but will be “sometime in May” according to director Cindy Cummins.
Finally in June The Theatre will present Tana Hicken in “The Belle of Amherst” June 17. This one-woman show traces the life of Emily Dickinson from her emergence as a poet at the youthful age of 15 to her death at 56, a recluse from Amherst society.
