years I have lived in and visited this place, I have seen the mountains transformed by the gypsy moths, and the acid rain, abuse and overuse of the parts of the Park, VDOT, and selfish ridge-top development.
My generation has been labeled ‘Generation X.” We have had to leam that things are not constant. Raised on Nintendo, the Reagan/Bush years, and the myth of college meaning an instant $75,000 a year job, 2.4 kids ind a two-car garage in the suburbs, it las taken us a while to look beyond jur own immediate desires and gratification.
Call us “Generation C” for sometimes a bit confused but continually growing in concern. We are concerned about the legacy of environmental degradation that has been left for us and our children to deal with. We are concerned that bureaucracy has become far too intertwined with the interests of big business and the dominant paradigm of “progress,” at the expense its constituency.
