wnai i am reaiiy aomg is waiting for the light to form around the dogwood tree in Mr. Jett's yard. He is our neighbor. Will the sapsucker return to the trunk of this small tree to lap the sap from the holes he has been drilling? For weeks early morning has brought this curious bird to tentatively tap on the dogwood tree; making neat holes through the bark.
Suddenly the sapsucker is there.. I hear his curious, mewing note, a downward slurring whine, and can just make out the vertical white stripe down the side of the bird. No other woodpecker has this distinctive mark.
