Ellen Neil Dore asked for support for the curriculum enrichment program, for the volunteer coordinator, for teacher salaries, and for smaller class sizes.

Mitzie Young noted that adding football would cost 100 times as much as the $4,000 requested for the enrichment program. "It's incredible that it's [football] considered anywhere near as important, and I come from a football family," she said.

"There is no intention to make that contrast," Mr. Tole said. "Football is another dimension. I feel we're getting to the point where we will be respon, sible for funding the schools entirely. How do you do that. Every year people are saying we can’t pay any more. Our challenge is to find what it is the schools can do to benefit not only the children but all members of the community. 1 would like to see us avoid a battle which is self-destructive. Our
