Monday night the JV volleyball team got its first win over Stonewall' Jackson after a loss in a close match with Page last Wednesday.
The varsity is still looking for its first regular season win after defeating all comers in a tip-off tournament to start the season.
Both teams won the first games in the match with Page, but ended up losing by a small margin in the remaining games.
Athletic director Mike Tupper said both teams had fantastic games against Page even though they lost. He said the varsity match, in particular, featured three solid games with extended volleys.
Coach Heidi Mayer was proud of her JV team following Monday's victory over Stonewall Jackson saying that "We missed a couple of practices during Thanksgiving and were a little off against Page. They weren't up to their potential, but now they played the way they could tonight. I'm really proud of them and I’m satisfied with the way they played."
The first JV match last Wednesday evening began with a point served by Alice Gentry. This was followed by two additional points by Ashley McNeally. Rebekah Letsen and Janice Wilson each made one more to tie the score 5-5.
Lauren Sharp then helped pull the team ahead making the score 7-5 with Ashley also serving another point for Rapp.
Rebbekah then served bringing Rapp ahead 11-5 before Page finally called a time out. After this she served an additional point before Page regained control of the ball.
The match ended with two more points from Lauren and one from Alice.
The second game started with a 6-0 score in Page’s favor at which time Rapp called a time out.
Alice then made the team's first point. She was followed by Meghan Fairbrother who served up an additional four.
The Panthers soon called another a time out, finding themselves behind Page 13-5.
Claire Schadler served next, making one more for the team. She was followed by Robyn Kaye who added two more to the score.
The Panthers got in one more point,, an ace by Lauren, before losing the game 15-9.
During the third game Alice once again made the first point for Rapp.
