Virginia Cooperative Extension, Community Action Programs, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) are teaming up to provide free income tax assistance to the elderly and limited income citizens of Rappahannock, Orange, Madison, Greene and Culpeper counties. .
The assistance in tax preparation will occur at local Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) of Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) sites in local communities. Similar sites in Virginia and throughout the country have been serving people for more than 25 years. The goal of this local effort is to bring the service closer to the people during the 1997 tax season.
As a result, these organizations are looking for volunteers who have a desire to help those in need and the ability to meet and deal with people from different circumstances.
