For instance, Del. A Donald McEachin, D-Henrico, cites the lack of use of the statute as a reason to repeal it. Saying he has not heard of any physician or pharmacist prescribing or issuing marijuana, he thinks it's simply taking up space in the law books.
Other lawmakers, however, contend that since the law rarely — if ever — has been applied, it hurts no one, and they question the reason for changing it.
Sen. John H. Chichester, RFredericksburg, said he had not heard of anyone taking advantage of the" law, which was passed during his second year as a state senator.
