When athletic competition resumes following this week's high school exams, one of the most successful RCHS athletic teams is eager to recover its winning ways.
The girls’ JV volleyball team has won four matches, five if you count a scrimmage with Clarke County at the beginning of the season, and lost only two, but its most recent loss was against Strasburg at home last Wednesday. One ironic aspect of that loss was thaNhey had previously defeated the Rams iriW away match.
The JV and varsity teams will face Luray at home Monday and district rival George Mason at home Tuesday.
Last Wednesday assistant Coach Leslie Nichols said the girls "went into the game very pumped up to play again against Strasburg. The first time they did very well." However, victory eluded them as they lost the first game 15-9 and the second 15-12. The team scored points in the first game on serves by Rebekah Letsen, Meghan Fairbrother, Lauren Sharp, Alice Gentry, Janice Wilson and Ashleigh McNealy. In the second game the Panthers also scored on a serve by Robyn Kaye.
Coach Heidi Maeyer was unable to attend last Wednesday's game and figures the girls were somewhat rusty after not very many practices before that meeting with Strasburg, but she remains enthusiastic about her team. Most of the girls were on last year's team, and
