Harold Douglas Smith II, 55, of New Baltimore, died on Friday, Sept. 26 at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

Mr. Smith was born on Oct. 24, 1941 in Washington, D.C. to Harold D. and the late Mary Thelma Smith.

He worked for the family business, Smith and Sons Equipment Corporation in Warrenton, and formerly in Chantilly, since he was 15 years old. Mr. Smith was the current President and General Manager.

He graduated from Virginia Tech with B.S. degree in business. Mr. Smith was a charter member and treasurer of the New Baltimore Lions Club. He supported the Future Farmers of America. He was a Director and former President of the Eastern Equipment Dealers Association and an Associate Director of the John Marshall Soil and Water Conservation District. He was a member of Warrenton Presbyterian Church.

A parenting class for parents who are separating and/or divorcing will be offered on Saturday, Oct. 4 beginning at 9 a.m. The class will be conducted by Dr. Susan L. Vignola, LCSW, of Associates for Growth.

Parents will learn how to establish their new parenting plan based on two parents, and two homes. You will learn how to recognize and how to deal with your child’s anger, hurt, and disappointment. Most importantly, you will learn how divorce affects children from infancy to adulthood.

This parenting class has been designed to fulfill courtmandated parenting course requirements for separating and/or divorcing parents. You will receive a certificate of participation that can be presented to the court to demonstrate compliance for court-ordered parenting classes.

As a result of taking this class, you will have the knowledge and skills to help you maintain the best possible relationship with your child and with your child’s other parents.
