Poison ivy sports white fruits that thrushes in particular find mighty palpable; as a result, the plant sprouts up in all kinds of places. I just found two little, most unwelcome, plants in my wildflower garden. No doubt a hermit thrush perched in the red maple tree that hangs over the garden I designed for herbaceous native spring wild flowers. Poison ivy is native, but is certainly not wanted there. Japanese honeysuckle was introduced into Virginia in the 19th century and has become a noxious pest. (I just looked up ‘noxious’ in the dictionary. The definition was given as: “harmful especially to health or morals.” I think I will retain the adjective; Japanese honeysuckle is harmful to my mental health and my morals are no better for its presence.)
