The U-14 soccer team started this year with two losses, but turned it around on Sept. 27 with a win.
The game played at the Warrenton Middle School on Sept. 13 against Fauquier 1 was lost 2-8. Only nine Rappahannock players showed up, but the game went on, without the usual 11 players.
Each Fauquier team outsized the Rappahannock team in stature as well as in numbers. Alexander Strange scored the two goals for Rappahannock. _
The game on Sept. 20 was played against Fauquier 2 in the drizzle on a slippery field. The teams were similiarly ipatched, but the game was lost 2-4. Single goals were scored by Nate Martin and Tony Starks. According to assistant coach, Mark Ramey, “The team ran out of steam. They are out of condition.”
The team passed the ball well, but if the positioning had been better they might have won, he said. Goalie Wally Reid did an outstanding job, said Ramey, stopping two balls with hand catches at close range.
