For further clarification in the Joy Best case: Best was convicted of distribution of marijuana at Rappahannock County High School. Judge H. Dudley Payne, of Rappahannock’s Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, was prepared to reduce her sentence to possession of marijuana provided she petitioned the school board to try and return to school, along with other stipulations of her sentence. She noted her right to appeal, maintaining that she is innocent of the charges. She remains convicted of distribution of marijuana at RCHS and the case will proceed to Circuit Court.
