The teams that count in the playoffs are Brentsville High School, George Mason High School and Manassas Park High School. Brentsville especially has a lot of talent, said Stanley, and he expects them to be advanced to AA ranking next year. The season started with Orange and Goochland, both AA ranked schools, although Rappahannock is only ranked as an A school due to its smaller size.
Stanley used to coach the boys’ basketball team and in comparing the two teams he thought the girls were harder workers and better listeners than the boys.
There is a good chance the girl’s basketball will be switched to the winter season with the boys’ basketball. There aren’t enough facilities since there will be two varsity and two varsity teams all competing for practice time in the gym, Stanley said. The elementary school gym has a poor floor for basketball and it is too small, he said.
