The Rappahannock County ftigh School Girls’ Varsity Basketball team never gave tip throughout the season, said Coach Luther Stanley, despite losing the 18 games they played this season. The George Mason High School game was lost last Thursday, Oct. 30, with a disappointing score of 20 to 90.
They will challenge them again in a tournament game on Thursday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. in Fairfax. Stanley said he is going to prepare the team by working on slowing the ball down, so they play our game not George Mason’s. The Junior Varsity will also play on Nov. 6 in. a try for the championship.
Stanley, girls’ varsity coach for four years, said the team is a young ball club this year with only two graduating seniors, Tiffany Keys and Julie Atkins. Next year with six new players joining the team, he hopes they will win more games. “They have the potential to be a good team,” he added.
This has been a difficult year for injuries. Becca Metcalfe and Margo Haynes were out all season and Sonia Wiginton and Alice Orfila Gentry were out for several weeks. Stanley said there were four or five games that the* team could have easily won: the Manassas Park games
