One success story of the foundation’s efforts is Roger Segella, a consultant who now resides in the county. Segella volunteers his experience and background in economics and the stock market. Segella works with students of Amy Gubler and Patty Clark, teachers at Rappahannock County High School.
Through the Securities Industry Foundation for Economic Education (SIFEE), Segella has introduced the students to SMG2000. This is a stock market simulation and teaching program available through the Internet that works with students in grades 4 through 12.
Students participate as teams in a classroom setting. Each team starts with an imaginary $100,000. They invest” the money in common stocks listed on the American Stock Exchange, the Nasdaq Stock Market and the New York Stock Exchange. The teams make simulated stock trades via the Internet over a 10 week period.
