Segella’s teams started Sept. 29 and wall end Dec. 10. Team’s portfolios can be automatically updated daily. They can check their investments, returns and ranking against other teams across the nation.
At the end of the 10 weeks participants whose hypothetical portfolio values have increased the most are given awards. Gubler has two teams using strictly the Internet to trade while Clark has two teams using only paper transactions for their investments.
Gubler stated that the teams are very enthusiastic and competitive in having the best portfolio. The students are learning a tremendous amount about the nation’s economy, the stock market and how to invest money wisely with a hands on application.
The foundation has awarded eight grants to the school. Grants ranged from buying building blocks for the kindergarten class, seed money to get an aluminum recycling program started, purchasing sound equipment for use in classrooms, to funds to expand the Peer Mediator Program that has been so successful.
These are only a few of the many achievements that Can happen outside the operations of the schools’ budgeted tax dollars through volunteering.
