On Tuesday evening, Aug.
22 children who were
participating in Camp Fantastic at the Northern Virginia 4-H Educational Center enjoyed food and entertainment provided by restaurants, businesses, individuals and civic clubs in and around Rappahannock County.
This was the 18th year that Camp Fantastic, a camp for children between the ages of seven and 17 who are cancer patients at NIH, has been conducted. Camp Fantastic is sponsored by Special Love, Inc.
One-hundred and five "fantastic children" along with doctors, nurs! es, and 4-H teen leaders who serve as camp counselors attended the camp.
We work with a great group from the community to plan this event each year. This year, our committee consisted of Sandra Jenkins, Ester Settle, Jan Makela, Marie Davis, Hal McDermott and Yogi Bear.
The theme for this year's Rappahannock Night was "Rock 'N Roll- the 50's." Josh Makela and Jesse Palmer helped put together goodie bags for each camper that contained a pair of "cool" sunglasses, a lollipop, stickers, and a special "Camp Fantastic 2000Rappahannock Night" cup.
Karla Miller, Robyn Kaye and Jason Kaye were there with their ever popular face painting, and' "Doodlebug" was our "official" clown.
Captain Jeff Brown and Deputy Kim Jansen came with a snow cone machine and handed out snow cones throughout the evening. Rev.
