Yes, it's true. A recent study by a Harvard researcher showed a direct relationship between community involvement and a longer lifespan. And one of the forms of community involvement specifically mentioned was P.T.O. membership! But the good news doesn't stop there.
Being an active member of your local Parent Teacher Organization has many positive effects on your life, so many in fact that for your enlightenment (and enjoyment) we are pleased to present our own Top Five Reasons for joining PTO.
Reason 5: Free food. That's right, free food, dinner in fact. All of our meetings are potluck affairs which means that in return for bringing one dish, you will be able to treat yourself to a free dinner on one Friday each month. And your family is welcome to participate too which bring us to,
Reason 4: Free babysitting. All of our meetings are open to all of your family and we provide babysitters for the business meeting portion. Yes it’s only for one hour and yes you have to attend the business meeting but it's still free babysitting.
Reason 3. Lowers your taxes. PTO raises thousands of dollars each year all of which is spent on big and small projects in our schools. Without PTO, funding for these projects would have to come from the school board budget which is funded in large part by your taxes. So, theoretically at least, the more money PTO can raise and spend, the less you have to pay in taxes!
