A dilemma. Common sense dictated that I remove the caterpillar systematically defoliating the tomato plant. Yet, I was so fascinated with its size and appearance, I hesitated and went back inside to think it over.

As an excuse for indecisiveness, I told myself I wanted to show the elegant little monster to Lee Trott, my wife. She has a great interest in butterflies and moths, and this green caterpillar would, if left alone, metamorphize into a handsome moth. Or so I thought at the time.
