Mrs. Mildred Thornton Fletcher purchased last week the farm now known as the Johnny Dodson place located about three miles from Woodville and two miles from Sperryville on the north side of the highway. There is a small cabin on the property. It is thought that this is the location of "Buena Vista," a school of a former day A few of the pupils of this school are known to have been James H. Fletcher, William Meade Fletcher and Justice George Browning. Miss Phyllis Vemer of Washington left Tuesday to assume duties as a practical nurse in the Iliff Nursing Home near Dunn Loring. For 12 years Miss Verner was the everaccommodating ’Phyllis" of the telephone switchboard at Washington. When the dial phones came in, Miss Verner turned her talents to the newspaper office and helped get the Rappahannock News launched in the county. She also served as Washington correspondent for The Virginia Star. During her stay at the desk at the News office, many times people would come in and not recognize her until she spoke. ’Phyllis" was an old friend of theirs by way of the phone, but they knew her only by voice. John R. DeBergh has purchased the James S. Settle apple orchard located one-quarter mile east of Flint Hill in Wakefield District.
