Eurythmy, for those unfamiliar with this form of expression, is a kind of dance rooted in a very spiritual understanding of the meaning of human nature and the physical body, in relationship to a corresponding sort of spiritual understanding having to do with language. Language, in this perspective, is experienced as having a direct relationship to the powers of creation.

The word is not merely an expression of verbal meaning but an actual force of spiritual energy capable of affecting and changing things through its sheer presence in speech. This understanding finds its most accessible and generally well known expression in New Testament scripture where it is written, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."

Nevertheless, that a mere < word can be something capable of beginning everything and being with God and even being God, is a rather alien notion to the modern feeling about language simply as a practical tool for communicating technical data, the weather, a recipe for brownies, the latest gossip, the lyrics to "Come as You Are", an objection by the defense, or a television sound bite.
