your friends at the store are probably tired of hearing you complain about what should be done at those darn schools. If you come to PTO, your voice will be heard and you may even get to chair a committee to pursue whatever cause you espouse.
Reason 1: You'll be a player. Being involved in PTO means you'll get to meet your kid's teachers and school administrators and your kid's friends' parents. You'll make connections that will serve you well throughout your kids' school experience and beyond. You'll break out of that isolationist pattern of work, work, work and find that there is more to school than just the place you pack your kids off to nine months out of the year.
You'll have a forum for your input and a means to make changes for the better in our public schools. No you probably won't be able to make the whole world safe for democracy, liberty and equality but you will have a chance to improve our little corner in some positive ways.
And of course don't forget the most important reason, as revealed by the previously mentioned Harvard study, PTO membership can lead to a longer life. And - that’s not because time seems to stand still in our long boring meetings either.
Our meetings are limited to one hour maximum and we strive to keep them interesting and informative so that you will keep coming back. So join us on Friday, Sept. 15 at the Rappahannock Park at 6 p.m.
