The big green caterpillar defi- . nitely had purpose when chomping on my tomato plants. As to its character, I suppose it could be called "inscrutable."

Nate explained that the horn- . worm's best defense was camouflage. I Its color was certainly the same as the greenery it was consuming at a great rate. It was only luck that I found it at all.

There is more; there always is in dealing with the complex mysteries , of nature. I wanted to know about the tiny wasp that found and laid . eggs on the caterpillar. I also wanted , to know more about the life history of the adult sphynx moth.

The answer to one questions always leads to another. Yet, I must stop someplace, and suppose this is the best time to terminate this story „ of the result of my indecisiveness. I • have run out of space.
