Another Rappahannock school year has come to a close. Final report cards have been sent home along with book bags full of tattered notebooks, stubby pencils, and crumpled papers dug out of the comers of desks and lockers. Teachers and students have earned a summer of welldeserved rest and relaxation, and can look back on all they accomplished this past year and make plans for the new school year in the fall.
Headwaters is also bringing to a close another successful year here in Rappahannock. As we look forward to beginning our fifth year working as a catalyst for educational excellence in our county public schools, our board members and supporters should feel good about all that we accomplished this year. We are especially fortunate to be able to work with a school system that is wholeheartedly dedicated to ensuring that our children receive the best possible education.
During the past year, over $23,000 in Headwaters funding went to support our schools and other projects for youth in our community. Half of the funding went directly to teachers as Mini-Grants, allowing them to pursue innovative classroom projects that would enrich their students’ learning experiences.
The rest of the funding went to enhance other facets of our children’s education. Last summer, Headwaters funded a Summer Workshop program for elementary students and a teen adventure program for older youth. This summer we are lending financial and volunteer support to Paul Reisler’s CD project, “Tidal Wave of Sound.”
And we continue to support the successful Starfish pientoring program, which thanks to Headwaters funding
