The Planning Commission made short work of the two applications before it at their March meeting last week, recommending approval of a motorcycle sales facility for Amissville, and a family apartment on Scrabble Road.
Bill Paolicelli, owner of the motorcycle shop, briefed the Commission on his intended use of a portion of the old Amissville Post Office facility.
He said that the is trying to take advantage of the hundreds of motorcyclists who come into the county every weekend by offering after-market merchandise — leathers, parts, and accessories — and also new and used motorcycles and ATV’s for sale to local residents.
County Zoning Administrator John McCarthy remarked that, because the proposed operation in located in a village commercial zone, the retail sales use would normally be “by right,’ but the zoning ordinance requires consideration of additional standards and a special use permit for motor vehicle sales.
The additional standards, he said, relate to the outdoor storage of vehicles for sale.
Mr. Paolicelli does not intend to store motorcycles outside, but will display them there only while the shop is open.
There was no public comment for or against the application, and the commissioners briefly discussed the proposed use before voting unanimously to recommend its approval to the Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA).
