The youth of the Amissville United Methodist Church have once again carefully placed twelve silhouettes along U.S. 211 near Amissville. The silhouettes will remain in place throughout Holy Week.
According to members of the youth of Amissville Methodist Church. "There are twelve to include all of God's people. They are black to show the mystery of God's love. They have our faces because we are part of the story.
“They are along the road because God's love is not restricted to Sundays and sanctuaries but is found in the midst of our daily lives.”
Each of the silhouettes represent:
• Jesus is anointed at Bethany, Mark 14:3-9.
• Jesus washed the disciples’ feet, John 13:1-20.
• Jesus celebrated Passover and begins a new tradition, Luke 22:15-20.
• Jesus prays in the Garden of Gethsemane. Mark 14:32-42.
• Jesus is accused and arrested, Luke 22:47-53.
• Jesus is denied bv Peter, Luke 22:57-62.
• Jesus is tried hv Pilate, Matthew 27:11-14.
• Jesus is beaten by soldiers. Mark 15:16-20.
• Simon carries the cross for Jesus, Luke 23:26-27.
• Jesus is crucified. Mark 15:22-39.
• The body of Jesus is buried, Mark 15:42-47.
• Mary finds that the tomb is empty, and Jesus is alive. John 20:1-18.
The youth of Amissville United Methodist extends a special word of thanks to neighbors who share their yards at this time of the year for the silhouettes.
