Burning Law
now in effect
Virginia's 4 p.m. Burning Law is currently in effect and will continue through April 3d.
In brief, the 4 p.m. Burning Law states: No burning before 4 p.m. now through April 30, if the fire is in or within 300 feet of woodland, brushland or fields containing dry grass or other flammable material.

EQIP offers cost sharing for farmers
Considering installing some conservation practices this spring? Check out the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP). A new sign up is currently underway and will continue through April 26.
Joe Thompson, District Conservationist for the Natural Resources Conservation Service in Culpeper and Rappahannock County says that EQIP offers farmers an opportunity to take care of natural resource problems such as animal waste, erosion on cropland or a need for improved grazing management.
The program was established in the 1996 Farm Bill to provide a conservation program for farmers who face threats to soil, water and related natural resources.
According to Thompson, “Over $2.4 million in EQIP funds are available to Virginia farmers this year. Farmers who sign up for five to ten year contracts under the program can receive up to 75 percent cost sharing and incentive payments for conservation practices called for in their conservation plgn.”

Diabetes support
group offered
A Rappahannock diabetes support group will be offered Feb. 27 and March 27 by Cathy Tibbetts, RN, Certified Diabetes Educator at Trinity Church’s Parish Hall in Washington from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Ms. Tibbetts is a registered nurse with a specialty in diabetes. She works as a diabetes nurse educator and volunteers with the Rappahannock Free Clinic. To find out more about the support group call Cathy Tibbetts at 987-1151.
