‘Howdy’ Holschuh
The novel replicates a cruise that Howdy and his wife Helen took down the Amazon River several years ago. Howdy has used their actual table mates (although the names and background information have been changed) and has spiced up the plot by adding sabotage, mystery and murder.
The plot goes something like this: The main characters are three couples that meet at dinner on the cruise ship. While these vacationing couples are enjoying the cruise down the Amazon River, they become ensnared in a family feud during which the electrical system of the entire ship is sabotaged, the ship runs aground, and the purser is poisoned.
It’s an exciting story full of twists and turns, as well as great travelogue, as Howdy’s delightful narrative points out exotic scenery along the way.
There are no graphic sexual scenes or foul language, and the author keeps the reader’s interest high throughout the voyage.
The impetus for writing this story grew out of a novelist and fellow passenger on the Holschuhs’ real journey, remarking that to the best of her knowledge no mystery had ever been sited on a cruise ship.
